Reclaim the Night Walk

Kent’s first ever Reclaim The Night walk is BACK for a second year running and we would encourage you to join in, walk, talk and be part of the campaign to make the streets of Tunbridge Wells and beyond safer.

Mark the evening of Saturday 25th November in your diaries – meeting on Rusthall High Street at 7.30pm to walk to the Pantiles where simultaneous walks from all over the town will come to meet.

The Reclaim the Night walk is held on the same day as the UN’s International Day for the Elimination of violence against women and girls, where thousands of women walk in protest for their right to walk freely without fear of harassment, intimidation or sexual assault.

With the clocks gone back and sunset just after 4pm, the dark evenings are very long and can make many of us feel unsafe. With all of us making journeys to and from work, school, college and rugby training, the importance of feeling safe is in all our minds and no one should feel unsafe travelling to and from our doors.

We hope you can all join us from the club and beyond to walk in unison in club colours to show solidarity and support to those affected and try to prevent this from happening to anyone.

As rugby players, we understand how being empowered together makes us stronger alone both on and off the field.

Let’s help put this message out and join together for safer, busier streets. 🙅🏼‍♀️🚫🚨

TWRFC Ladies 1XV at Edenbridge Development Festival

18 players of the Ladies 1XV played a mix of Edenbridge & East Grinstead in their first proper run out since early December.

The festival started with joint training covering Tackles, Rucking & Mauling, with 1XV John Petty lending Simon & Hannah a hand as his sister Emilia was trying rugby for her first time.

After the training, a 40min game ensued with Wells down 14-0 at HT having spent a lot of time on the attack, losing ball and points to well worked break away tries. We did cross the line, but alas Emma McGreivy learnt that marching over the line on her knees isn’t allowed….everyday’s a school day 😊

Wells continues in fine attacking form but failing to cross the line during a tiring 2nd half.

With the result looking at 28-0, Tammy Samuel finished her first full(ish) game for the club with a Head-Down charge, scoring for our pride!!

It stayed 28-5 as Simon forgot to unload the T from the car a mile away, meaning a drop goal bounced of the post as the whistle went.

A strong showing from the Tunbridge Wells players which was only marred by not being able to convert all their time in the opposition 22 into points, but that is something the coaches will work on.

Congratulations to Fiona Horne in getting the Player of the Match nomination, given to her and her opposite number for playing their first game of full contact.

Next week we are away to Sheppey and look forward to our progression

Life After TWRFC Ladies

TWRFC Ladies are excited & proud to see the latest two girls playing rugby as adults.

Last weekend saw ex-U18 Amelia Marshall & her sister Emily ran out for Exeter Athletic Ladies in their 25-24 win against Bude Ladies.

Amelia was praised for her work rate, technique & style of play in training by coach Amy Garnett, England Women’s ex-captain & most capped hooker…a compliment too for Tammy & Milo who coached the U18s during her time with us.

With others ex-players now playing for Harlequins & Richmond Premiership sides and more having played or are still playing for Cambridge, Oxford Brooks, Warwick, Nottingham & Southampton Universities, our legacy is looking very good. Not bad for a section that’s only in its 6th season!!
(Okay, Emily never played for the club but trained & worked hard with us over the last 2 summers, caught the rugger-bug and is now hooked)

Next weekend (25th-27th Oct) see 34 of our girls (with 17 coaches & parents) go on Tour to Bath & Bristol. In a packed weekend they will get some coaching from ex-England player & Exeter’s Womens Team Head Coach, Susie Appleby, as well as being the Guard of Honour for Bath v Exeter in the Rugby Premiership at the Rec on Friday and Bristol Bears v Richmond Women in their Tyrrells Premiership match on Saturday….hopefully seeing ex-TWRFC Ladies Rosie Dobson representing Richmond that day.

More exciting things coming for TWRFC Ladies that will need your help & support so stay tuned!!
