The Clubhouse will be open on Saturday morning so come and watch England take on New Zealand in the RWC Semi Final. Kick off 9am. Clubhouse open from 8am and the bar will be open from 10am

Mini Festival Huge Success!

As Typhoon Hagibis caused disruption in Japan, rugby continued at the Tunbridge Wells RFC mini’s festival. 

81 teams from clubs across Kent, Sussex and South London, met to play fantastic rugby.

Despite the rivalry, the competitive spirit, the gut and determination showed by the players, they all shook hands afterwards and parted as friends in rugby

Over 850 players enjoyed their experience, playing to the best of their ability, striving to deliver the best they could.

There were teams in attendance with insufficient numbers to make a complete squad, but they still got to play games.  Teams were created from multiple clubs to create a barbarian squad, where the players demonstrate the ultimate level of sportsmanship and put aside their club allegiances to ensure everyone can play.

Across the age groups rugby was played, children had fun and parents cheered. 

The Festival, sponsored by NFU Mutual, was the first mass run out for the new team kit and some of our sponsors from Countryside, Bethany and HR Revolution were able to come alone and watch some great rugby.

Brains Over Brawn

On Friday night, the Ladies section hosted a quiz at the Cross Keys pub to raise funds for their tour to Bath.

Around 60 people pitted their brains against quiz master Ioana Platts-Mills with Team Pinky and the Brains coming tops. 


The quiz night raised a total of £898! A fantastic result. This will be added to almost £600 from cake sales at the club and £1700 raised by girls U13 coach Tammy Samuel running a marathon earlier this year.

Thanks also to Stephenson Harwood LLP and Zuber Design Architects for sponsoring the tour hoodies.

 
Girls from age 11 to 18 will benefit from these funds on the tour which takes place from 25-27 October. 


Special thanks to all of those who baked cakes, bought cakes, donated wine and chocolate, bought raffle tickets and otherwise donated their time and money.

Clean Sweep for U11s at Hastings Festival

The Under 11s took a squad of thirteen players down to their first festival of the season at Hastings.  

There were new rules to implement, especially kicking, which meant players and coaches were a little apprehensive before the start. But, the players took it in their stride and won 4 out of 4 matches.

The number of different try scorers reflected how well they played as a team and importantly they had great fun playing. 

Attention now turns to the TWRFC Minis Festival this coming Sunday where U11s will field three teams.

Rugby Club Scrubs-up Nicely

The second TWRFC Summer Ball was held at the High Rocks on Saturday 28th September.

The Summer Ball, attended by over 135 people from across the club; youth, seniors, vets and club members, was a true example of the oneTWRFC ethos in action. The evening included a raffle, “Heads & Tails”, auction and some very creative dancing – especially towards the end of the evening!

A key part of the club’s event calendar, the Summer Ball was an opportunity for people to enjoy a great night out but also raised over £9,000 for the club.

The club has already seen benefits from the three year plan with improvements in club house audio visual, pitch side PA and gym set up. Funds raised at the Summer Ball will contribute to further improvements. This includes ground floor catering (working title: Nick’s Cafe) facilities that will improve the club for all members, visitors and also the wider community.

Numerous reports of sore heads at Youth Section training the next morning have yet to be substantiated.

SOS Kit Aid

Tunbridge Wells RFC is very proud of its track record in supporting local and national charities. To mark the start of the Rugby World Cup in Japan the club organised an event in favour of charity SOS Kit Aid. 


SOS Kit Aid exists because sport changes lives. Its mission is to recycle sports kit for the benefit of young people in the UK and overseas so they are given a sporting chance. With the support of the world of rugby, kit has been donated by schools, clubs and kit manufacturers across the UK, with an estimated value of over £6 million delivered to date. Over 250,000 youngsters in 44 developing countries around the world have received quality used and new kit, and there are a further 20 countries on the waiting list.

Club Chairman Mike Rigby said: “We are delighted to help this charity as they strive to make a positive and tangible impact on children’s lives by giving them the chance to participate in sporting activities; promote social inclusion; and protect the environment by reducing the proportion of used kits in landfill sites.”

As the result of a collection day, the club have been able to send the charity 315 youth playing shirts plus T-shirts, boots and even a set of old post protectors! This would not have been possible without the generosity of members and the club’s Youth Section sponsors Countryside, Greenstone Financial Planning, Nortrade, HR Revolution, Bethany School, Cripps Pemberton Greenish and The Mark Cross Inn.

TWRFC Summer Ball 28th September 2019

We are looking forward to the second TWRFC Summer Ball to be held this year in the President’s Suite, High Rocks, Tunbridge Wells, TN3 9JJ  on Saturday 28th September at 7pm.   The dress code is black tie.

Timings for the evening are:
7.00pm Bar open and arrival drinks served
7.30pm Sit down (and stand up for heads and tails with Steve Daly)
7.45pm First course served, followed by main course and dessert
10.00pm Dancing
2.00am End

During the dessert course we will be drawing the raffle and holding the auction. Tim McCabe will be your auctioneer for the evening.

Costs
The heads and tails will be £5 per person
Raffle tickets are £10 and we have some great prizes for you
Auction items include a week in a luxury villa in France, a meal for 10 prepared and served in your home, a private tour for 4 people with lunch at the Curious Brewery, dinner for 4 at a Whiting and Hammond pub and Sunday lunch with wine cooked for you by Steve Wickenden.

Timbale of smoked salmon filled with crab in a mayonnaise sauce
Tomato and mozzarella salad with basil and olive oil dressing (v)
Roast fillet of beef sliced and served with a rich barolo wine and balsamic sauce, veg and potatoes
Provencale risotto, spicy ratatouille and tomato risotto with grilled polenta wedges (v)
Panna cotta, cooked cream dessert with limoncello syrup and fresh raspberries
Coffee and petits fours
