So, we now have the results of the first survey of the youth membership in a number of years. Firstly thank you to the 120 odd (of our 500+ family memberships) who took the few minutes to complete the survey. The results are a really good guide to the Exec in where we are doing well and where we need to focus our attention. I will not cover all the results in detail in this article but I can assure we are treating all the responses with huge value. Here are our key findings:

Q. What is important to you in your choice of club? The strongest answer gave a resounding pat on the back to our volunteer Coaches who are clearly attracting members to our club with the quality of the coaching and the sense of community they are building.

Q. What is most important in terms of future of the club? No surprises here with Improved pitch drainage; improved clubhouse; and improved parking. The three topics we spend a lot of time thinking/planning for on the Exec. We have plans to address all three of these topics but with limited resources we have to prioritise. More news to come here soon hopefully.

Q. What would make you use the Clubhouse more? More socials were requested and more food options. Also, interesting to see a desire for more family friendly elements to the clubhouse. Food for thought for us here as we are striving to diversify our revenue streams.

Q. What would improve your child’s rugby experience? Great to see the answer more 1st XV engagement at training as we all have a desire to make the club feel like one club (not a senior and junior section). I think we need to encourage more youth engagement with the 1ST XV home games and more 1st XV players at the club on a Sunday. Also, we heard loud and clear that training should be predominantly around game play (rather than drills) and they want LOTS MORE FIXTURES. Modern rugby courses all coach us to focus our training sessions around game play rather than drills so your feedback is a good reminder for us. We all love game time!

So plenty for us to work on from this survey: A lot of positives and areas for us to focus our minds on. Thank you to all responders and an even bigger thank you to all those who said they would like to volunteer to keep this club the massive community asset it has become. We will be in touch soon!!

“One Club at the heart of our Community from Under 6’s to Vets”

Welcome to the 2018/19 Season at TWRFC, whether this is your first year or you are returning after a summer break you are most welcome.

We have been busy preparing for the start of the new season on the 2nd September and can’t wait to welcome you back. The pitches are ready, the coaches have drawn up their plans for the season, we have a good fixture list, we have bought lots of new equipment, all we need now is the players!!

Hopefully you have been keeping your athletes fit, lean and exercised over the summer so they arrive back ready for another season of fun, learning on a sports field.

What can they expect from us coaches?

• They will be at the heart of everything we do and all the decisions we make
• We will encourage fun on the pitch through equal opportunity and realistic expectations of the children
• We have built the skills of our adults to provide a safe, healthy, respectful, and enjoyable environment
• We will develop children’s confidence and character as players and as people, challenging any behaviour that conflicts with this
• Champion rugby’s core values: Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline & Sportsmanship.

As coaches we do volunteer our time because we believe in the values that Rugby has given us and hence we can’t wait to get back up to St Marks and get going again…..

And what a week one it’s going to be! We have only lined up a Rugby world cup winning, president of the RFU, legend of the game to come and kick start the season. The one and only Jason ’The Fun Bus’ Leonard is coming to promote his charity The Atlas Foundation. Pitch allocations are now online and will be posted here every week. I am sure your coaches will still send their weekly motivational mails!!

As we start the season, I do have one ask of all the parents and supporters. Please remember to keep our touchline culture the positive, encouraging, inclusive and supporting environment we all love. Please be as noisy as you can in encouraging all the players (from both sides) and let the coaches do the coaching/tactics.

• Order some new boots
• Order a mouthguard: Opro are coming to the club on the 9th for Custom fit mouth-guards. See the website for details
• Order some club stash from our new provider (Samurai) by visiting the clubs new on-line kit shop
• Visit the clubhouse (from 12-1pm) to snap up the last of our old (Serious Stuff) kit. Bargains galore like socks, shorts, wet tops, shirts! When it’s gone, it’s gone!

The First XV get the season started this Saturday with a home fixture vs Hertford. Why not come up and support the club and get the kids excited about the next day when the Youth section takes over!
